Introduction

Something I find very interesting is the constant struggle with identity amongst people. We seem to always search for who we are and where we belong. We also find that a major part of our identity is our sexuality. Who we love and have relationships with is a large part of our lives. Also where we find these relationships is also very important and very interesting. In the article Financial (self)-identification: The Pink Economy in France, Steve Wharton states, “ ‘Identity is about belonging, about what you have in common with some people and what differentiates you from others’ ” (173 Perry, Cross). When coming here I wanted to see how the French incorporate their sexuality into their everyday lives, based off of the stereotypical view that the French are more sexual, but specifically observe gay sexuality and learn more about the French gay identity. Then after observing the culture in Pau France for a month or so there seems to be quite a few major differences between gay and straight bars and nightclubs. So I decided to find out

why the gay bars and clubs in Pau have a more hyper sexual atmosphere than the straight one’s. So, my friend Derek and went out to find our answer.
